I truly believe that a universal drive for every person is kindness. Maybe I’m naive, too young yet to be hardened by the world, and am still living in my own utopian bubble, but I stand by it. People are fundamentally kind. And if someone is cruel, they’re dealing with their own trauma. It has been show to me time and time again, but I'm also aware it's the way I WANT to see the world.
Hiking alone, selfies compulsory.
I stayed in Gisborne with friends of friends. They’d never met me and took me in. Their hospitality astounded me and I was touched. We ate together, laughed, and of course discussed a shared love of sailing, which does serve as a connection. Sailing is a small community, and a friendly one that I am always grateful for.
